Regions4Climate
The Regions4Climate project brings together 46 partners from 13 different European countries to demonstrate innovations that enhance societal resilience to the impacts of climate change, in line with the Paris Agreement and the EU Green Deal. Based on cross-sectoral strategies created by and for people, the project partners will collaboratively develop and implement novel social, technological, digital, business, governance, and environmental solutions to reinforce adaptive capacity and minimise vulnerability to climate impacts.
The European Commission awarded the Regions4Climate project 24,522,103€ to undertake innovative climate resilience actions for a period of 5 years beginning in January 2023. Regions4Climate is funded under the call topic "Large scale demonstrators of climate resilience creating cross-border value" of the Horizon Europe Mission on Climate Adaptation research and innovation programme, under grant agreement no. 101093873.

Regions4Climate’s approach is based on the idea that, by involving all stakeholders, from governments to citizens, and combining sociocultural, technological, digital, business, governance, and environmental innovations and solutions, vulnerable regions will be able to tackle climate-related issues and create a more equitable and thriving society for all.
The 12 regions involved in the project will implement specific Regional Innovation Actions aimed at reducing their vulnerability to the impacts of climate change. These demonstration actions are supported by a set of user-centered tools and frameworks, which will be tested and implemented in the partner regions. The development of such tools in support of planning and implementation of a just transition to climate resilience will be based on the combination of new knowledge, detailed understanding of regional ecosystems, and innovative technologies and processes. The demonstration of such tools within the Regions4Climate partner regions will contribute to the development of a holistic framework of modular, interoperable social, environmental, economic, policy and governance innovations, including tools and methodologies underpinned by robust guidelines and models, to be applied in other regions beyond the project and support European-wide development of evidence-based climate resilience plans and adaptation pathways.
The Climate Resilience Maturity Assessment for Regions is one of the innovative tools developed within Regions4Climate, as part of the project’s holistic framework to support regions’ socially just transition to climate resilience.
